Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner addressed hundreds of union members, elected officials, candidates, and community leaders on Friday, June 20th at the 2008 Cincinnati AFL-CIO COPE Dinner. The COPE Dinner is an annual fundraiser for the Committee on Political Education. It sponsors voter education, voter registration, candidate screenings, endorsements, Meet-The-Candidates-Night, and GET-OUT-THE VOTE activities.

Over 65 concerned citizens gathered on the corner of Edwards and Madison in Norwood on June 12th, they called on Bush and McCain to end their support for tax breaks for big oil. The participants held signs that said "Bush & McCain love Big Oil". McCain's tax plan would give an additional $3.8 billion in tax cuts to the five largest American oil companies. Cincinnati AFL-CIO working families demanded that McCain honor working people's interests, not those of the oil industry.

On Saturday, June 7th, State Treasurer Richard Cordray and State Representative Steve Driehaus stood with working families as they discussed the health care crisis in Ohio and across the country. Working America, which will have 800,000 members in Ohio by Labor Day, fights to advance the economic interests of working families through issue and legislative advocacy, and political mobilization.
